Sights and Sounds of Ann Arbor

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 by Raleigh Hokie

We love the Hokies and we love road trips. The chance to watch the Hokie softballers in their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Super Regionals was too hard to pass up. So we packed up the car and headed north for what turned out to be a memorable holiday weekend.

Greetings from Knoxville!

Saturday, May 17th, 2008 by Raleigh Hokie

We decided to get up bright and early and make the four hour drive to Knoxville for Day 2 of the NCAA Softball Regionals.  And we witnessed history.  With the 4-0 victory over Tennessee, the Hokies advanced to the Regional Finals for the first time ever.

Defensive concepts : VTs Inverted Cover-2

Monday, May 5th, 2008 by Raleigh Hokie

As a VT fan, it’s easy to love defense. Over the last 15 years, defense has been a constant staple for VT’s rise as a college football power. Over those years, we have heard about the attacking 8-man fronts, funny position names like the Whip and Rover, and stud players like Cornell Brown and Corey Moore who actually played the Stud position. Spring Practice – Defense Searches for Answers Up the Middle

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 by Raleigh Hokie

To have a good defense in baseball, it is important to be strong up the middle (catcher, second base, shortstop and centerfield). Saturday, March 1st, 2008 by Raleigh Hokie

For the past several years, one of the most popular topics on the message boards has been the struggles of VT’s offense to handle the blitz.  A post earlier today by TSL poster “Pride_and_Joy” spawned the latest thread on the topic.  As he pointed out, there have been games where the blitz was handled with perfection (eg, Georgia Tech), while there have been others where the blitz created a number of problems (eg, the Orange Bowl against Kansas).

I think Chan Gailey and John Bond have a difficult challenge this week trying to prepare for Bud Foster’s defense.  (more…)

Follow-Up to LSU Game Analysis

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 by Raleigh Hokie

Ok, let’s do this again. If you have any follow-up questions, you can post them below. I will try to monitor the boards as well, but things move pretty fast over there and questions sometimes get lost in the traffic.
