TSL Poll: What is your favorite 2008 uniform combination?

October 8th, 2008 by Will Stewart

I thought the 1994 football season, with its crazy orange uniform combos, would never be matched for variety. That season even included a hideous orange-on-orange combo that the Hokies modeled in a humiliating home loss to Virginia. But 14 years later, the 2008 season is rivaling the 1994 season for multiple uniform combos, including the first significant use of orange since that fateful day against UVa. So we have to ask the question: What’s your favorite uniform combo the Hokies have worn so far this season?

We waited until the WKU game for this poll, hoping the Hokies would debut their home maroon jerseys. Alas, they did not, choosing instead to recycle the home orange jerseys worn in the GT game.

Fortunately, we’ve got pics from media day showing the maroon jerseys and white pants. There’s no helmet, and it’s not an action shot, but at least we’ve got something to go with for the traditional maroon/white home combo.

Here are the uniforms the Hokies have worn so far this season, shown in the order in which they debuted.

i’m not a big fan of the new maroon and orange jerseys. my favorite home uni’s were the dark maroon (atleast they seemed darker that the new jerseys) worn back around 2001 – 2004 with a very small trim of white or orange. and slight orange trim around the numbers. there was no flare or frill to them. just straight up solid maroon. i think it was more intimidating that our new uni’s. i specifically remember KJ , Coles Colas, and Nathaniel Adibi decked out in all maroon. those were the best in my opinion.

I am sorry but I really don’t like any of those uniforms. Perhaps the first one is the better of those. But they are all too “busy” in my opinion. I know modern uniforms have panels on the side and piping. But that doesn’t make it necessarily look better. And I don’t really need the state of VA on the helmet.

My favorite “look” for VT was all-Maroon as worn in the 2003 Miami game and the Texas A&M Monsoon game.

  3. RollerVT Says:

The football team should seriously consider adopting the state of Virginia with Tech written inside it as the new logo for our football helmets. That is one of the coolest logos in all of college football. Those throwback uni’s have to be one of the best looks we’ve had in years! And to finally bring the orange jerseys back is a close second for me. Now all we need to do is wear the maroon pants with the orange jerseys and we’ll be rollin!!

By the way, those ‘03 jerseys with the big block numbers were some of the ugliest jerseys we’ve ever had, but I do love the all maroon look of the past couple seasons (’06 & ‘07).

  4. VTizzle Says:

…all-maroon? I’d give that one a nod over any of them IMO

  5. VAHokie89 Says:

all-maroon w/o the different colors and piping. SO the “all-maroon” of the past two years isn’t the same as true all maroon.

  6. Uncle Monkey Says:

My favorite not listed. White jerseys (modern) with maroon pants. Our “Redskins look”. At end of day, it’s the “Hokie look” that the players and recruits like that matters most. . .

  7. Will Stewart Says:

Agreed, Uncle Monkey, my favorite is white jerseys on maroon pants. Looked great on Druck in the 1996 season, and I’ve liked it ever since.

  8. hokieharry Says:

I’ll have to go with the Maroon jerseys and white pants for home games and the reverse, white jersey/maroon pants for away games. That’s how I’ve always thought teams should dress and remember them doing so. The VT on the modern helmet is all that’s needed there.

  9. Newt Says:

I’d like to see a uniform that uses the maroon jerseys with black pants. :)

  10. Atlee Hokie Says:

There wasn’t a combo I liked, so I opted to sit this one out. If the #2 choice had included maroon pants, I’d have voted for that one.

I still prefer the white (without colored panels), with the maroon pants. If I were the uniform czar, we’d wear that combo home and away. Unless we were playing LSU since LSU wears white jerseys at home.

  11. hokieville Says:

    JUST WIN BABY!!!!!!!!!!

  12. KWAVaTech Says:

Wow, tough crowd! If you don’t like at least one of the combos this year, I don’t know what to tell you…..

I like the changing it up a bit, can’t say we’re boring!

The orange isn’t my favorite either, but it’s refreshing to see something a little new and creative.

  13. Hokietanker20 Says:

My kids always fight over who gets to be the Maroon Hokies on the X-Box, so I think any combo that is primarily Maroon is a huge favorite.

  14. hokieglenn Says:

Please, do away with the orange jerseys. Ugh. Orange should be an accent color.

Maroon for home games. All white for away games. Its who we are. Also, don’t like the throw backs either.
